Characterization of T1 hyperintense renal lesions with diffusion-weighted imaging: preliminary experience

چکیده
Introduction T1 hyperintense renal lesions may represent hemorrhagic/proteinaceous cysts or neoplasms. The visual assessment of enhancement of these lesions can be difficult, and signal intensity measurements before/after contrast injection and qualitative analysis of enhancement with image subtraction can be used in that purpose. We wanted to determine the accuracy of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measured with diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) for the differentiation between hemorrhagic/proteinaceous cysts and T1 hyperintense neoplasms.

Diffusion-weighted MR imaging offers no advantage over routine noncontrast MR imaging in the detection of vertebral metastases.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Diffusion-weighted MR imaging of the spine has been used to differentiate benign from pathologic vertebral body compression fractures. We sought to determine the utility of diffusion-weighted MR imaging in the detection of vertebral metastases and to compare it with conventional noncontrast T1- and T2-weighted MR imaging. METHODS Fifteen patients with metastases to the ...
متن کاملT1 hyperintense renal lesions: characterization with diffusion-weighted MR imaging versus contrast-enhanced MR imaging.
PURPOSE To compare the performance of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurement obtained with diffusion-weighted (DW) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the characterization of non-fat-containing T1 hyperintense renal lesions with that of contrast material-enhanced MR imaging, with histopathologic analysis and follow-up imaging as the reference standards. MATERIALS AND METHODS Institut...
متن کاملSmall solid renal masses: characterization by diffusion-weighted MRI at 3 T.
AIM To describe the appearance of small solid renal lesions (≤3 cm) on diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to determine whether ADC measurements may help to differentiate benign from malignant small solid renal masses. METHODS AND MATERIALS Thirty-five patients with 47 small renal masses (23 malignant, 24 benign) who underwent 3 T MRI of the kidney using diffusion-weighted...
متن کاملCharacterization of Renal Masses with Diffusion-Weighted MR Imaging -- A Preliminary Experience
Introduction/Background The presence of enhancing soft tissue in a renal lesion on cross-sectional imaging is considered diagnostic of a renal tumor. However, an extensively necrotic or cystic renal tumor may demonstrate little contrast enhancement, and its imaging appearance may overlap with that of complex benign renal cysts on conventional MR images. It has been shown that MR diffusion-weigh...

T. Parikh, S. Drew, S. Wong, V. S. Lee, E. M. Hecht, R. Lim, B. Taouli Radiology, NYU Medical Center, New York, NY, United States Introduction: Current MRI techniques for assessing liver lesions include T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) and dynamic gadolinium-enhanced T1-weighted imaging. Accurate lesion detection and characterization are very important especially in patients with cirrhosis or cancer....
